After attempting to start some seeds in cold weather, I realized that I really needed some heat – and localized heat (don’t want to keep the house hot just for some seeds). This heat mat is the perfect size for a standard seedling tray. Also very nice that it is waterproof. The mat itself seems to be of high quality. When plugged in and running, it uses about 50 watts. It is not constantly on, it only operates when the temperature probe is below the set temp. The remote temperature probe is a nice feature as well. With the mat underneath the tray, I can have the probe inside the tray and right next to the seeds. The only problem with the mat is the controls. The power button turns the unit on and off as expected. But then you set the temperature and your preference of Celsius vs Fahrenheit. What I would expect:Push the set button once to activate the /- minus button – and set the desired temperature.Push the set button twice to switch between Celsius vs Fahrenheit. What the unit does:Pushing the set button once activates Celsius vs FahrenheitPushing the set button twice activates the temperature selector buttonsIf a new user picks up the mat and does not have the instructions, they will think there is no way to adjust the temp, unless they accidently push the button twice and use the selection buttons. Also, when pushing the button twice, you sometimes don’t do it fast enough or whatever… and you end up adjusting Celsius vs Fahrenheit. You usually only set Celsius vs Fahrenheit once, so it should be the secondary option.Outside of this issue, it is a good heat mat. As long as you can get over the controls, which honestly do not need adjustment often, I would recommend the product!
